Join us for 3rd Friday on Bank August 20th as we have store specials, live entertainment by Justin Miller and David Higgombotham from 6-8, a dog parade at 7 p.m. that starts on 2nd Avenue and ends at Founder's Park, PLUS late night shopping and painting downtown!

Thursday, AUGUST 19th SAM BARNETT will host Canvas and Conversation. New to Memi's but an experienced painter and architect, Sam will paint a beautiful green apple on a 16 x 20 canvas using acrylic. $55.00 includes canvas, great instruction and a fun night out of the heat! Thursday, AUGUST 26th SCOTT WILLIS will host Canvas and Conversation with a beautiful floral. Memi would be 100 years old this month if she were still with us, and let me tell you she would have been on Willard Scott calling him "sweetie pie". So let's celebrate! She was full of life, and loved children, so Memi's is having a special on pottery the last two weeks in May in her honor! We will paint a custom birthday plate for someone you love (they can be born any month) for $20.00 on a 10" dinner plate! The plate will have a birthday cake (you pick the colors) with polka dots or stripes with their name and HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Just stop by and give us your information, or come paint yourself and receive 10% off your pottery purchase. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEMI!

COME PAINT WITH US. Our summer class schedule is full of classes for adults, children and introducing our TEEN classes (ages 13-17). We will be offering a variety of subjects, mediums, canvas sizes and of course TALENT! A great time for 3-5 year olds to sing songs, paint pottery and of course have a ball. CANVAS AND CONVERSATION. Have you ever heard of the BIG Cities doing all these things and we say "Why Not Decatur??" Well, let me tell you, WHY NOT DECATUR?! We have so many fabulous opportunities in Decatur, so let's take advantage of them! The Dragonflies will soon be out the Carnegie Visual Arts Center so beautifully places throughout our town. Plus they offer many opportunities for adults and children throughout the summer. The Princess is offering a variety of day camps this summer and productions, the stores on Bank, 2nd Avenue, Moulton...they are all so unique and LOVE to be a part of Decatur's Heritage, right in DOWNTOWN. 3rd Friday DOWNTOWN. WOW. If you haven't been join us this month on the 21st from 5-8. MEMI'S is so proud to offer what you hear all the buzz about in "big" cities often called different things (Bottles and Brush, Sips and Strokes, etc....) in our own version called CANVAS AND CONVERSATION. If you haven't checked out the bio's on our artists you should do so...quite impressive. BUT, the good news is that doesn't matter...their goal is for you, beginner or experienced, to come to Memi's on Bank and have a night that is yours. ALL yours. By yourself. With a friend. With a coworker, sister, mom, husband, etc. but to leave with something YOU will be proud of, and indeed you will. As the owner of Memi's I am proud to be able to offer such classes that have left people saying "I can't believe "I" did this!" It is a feeling of satisfaction for me, even though I had nothing to do with it. It is a feeling of satisfaction of being a part of a community that supports the arts, and supports their downtown. If you haven't taken a CANVAS AND CONVERSATION CLASS at Memi's on Bank, now is the time! We have a summer filled with great classes that you don't want to miss! They start SUNDAY, APRIL 25th with these beautiful MANGOS by artist RICKIE HIGGINS. If we hear anything said BEFORE people take the step to sign up, it's "I have not artistic ability"...well, that's what these classes are for! Our artists teach you stroke by stroke how to create a piece you will be so proud of! What a great way to have art in your house...created by YOU! This summer RICKIE, LEE NABORS, SCOTT WILLIS and introducing SAM BARNETT will offer classes weekly so you can choose one....or many!

A little TOOT for our horn...did you see 20/20 on the the wonderful movie THE BLIND SIDE on Wednesday December 29th? Well, Lee was commissioned to paint Michael Oher by Lee Ann Tuhey the mother of Michael, and they showed the painting when he was taking the commentator into his home to show her where he lived during 20/20. WOW! Anyway, we have so many gifted artists in Decatur, and we are fortunate to have her at Memi's on Bank! Something NEW...she will be teaching a class CERAMICS and CONVERSATION....come paint a beautiful platter on pottery. Details to follow soon. We hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are looking forward to an exciting New Year. 2010 holds lots of new things at Memi's on Bank, from new classes including CERAMICS and CONVERSATION, PAINT 'n POTTERY PIECES (broken pottery combined with painting) and of course we will continue to provide the our regular CANVAS and CONVERSATION, and PALETTES and PUNCH, POTTERY LADY and BIRTHDAY PARTIES . Along with classes, you can still come in and paint as you please, shop as you please, and have a jolly good time doing it! Tuesday-Friday from 10-5 and Saturday 10-2.

Below are our first classes of the NEW YEAR, PALETTES and PUNCH on MONDAY, JANUARY 4th from 10-12. Artisit LEE NABORS will instruct this class for kids ages 7 and up. They will use a medium gel, masking tape and palette knife to create an abstract painting learning new techniques. TREES, TREES and MORE TREES....

Well, we once were lost, but now we're found! THE LOST TREE is what we call it because we never posted what you would paint in Scott Willis' CANVAS and CONVERSATION, the photograph was lost somewhere in Cyber Space (where is that by the way?) ANYWAY, these 9 talented painters showed up anyway and painted these wonderful trees and left quite pleased with themselves:)

NOW, WHO CAN GUESS WHERE THIS TREE IS?? It is somewhere in Decatur, but it will not be announced until the night of CANVAS and CONVERSATION with artist RICKIE HIGGINS on MONDAY, DECEMBER 14th. What a great time the group had at Canvas and Conversation with Scott Willis last Thursday. This group you see here is just part of the participants, but WOW, I'd like to have these hanging along my fence in place of my current landscape:)

Scott is a fabulous instructor (obviously) and everyone was leaving saying "I can't wait to do this again!" Some of the participants had never even picked up a paint brush before!

Palettes and Punch is Tuesday, July 7th from 9-12. It's amazing what these kids can produce! If your kids are already tired of swimming, this is the perfect way to tie them up AND have something to show for it!!

Memi's has been HOT, literally, with the firing going on, but we have finally gotten you a cool place to hang out and paint pottery. Look for some pictures soon of what has been painted this summer....don't say you're not artistic, anyone can do it! Stop by and check out our new gift items.

Our first Friday @5 was a big success....go ahead and mark your calendars for July 17th. Food, fun, entertainment and shopping equals a delightful evening on Bank Street! More details to come.

Bonnie and Rickie, the instructors for July, teach you stroke by stroke how to paint. Give it a try....you'd be amazed at what you can produce. Palettes and Punch had a great time today with their funky fish. Check out the "school of fish" on the photo above. Our young Picasso's went straight to work creating their masterpieces...some listening to instruction some letting their creativity flow:) It was all about fun at Memi's today. Rickie himself providing most of the entertainment. My daughter managed to end up with paint on her legs, shorts, and hair? but isn't that what creativity is all about?

Lori Lanier will be playing from 6-8, we'll have food, activities for kids and best of all you can shop until 8:00! Bring a lawn chair and listen to Lori, or just stroll along the street. Yes, you see it twice because "blogging" is totally new to me and my friend Jennie Marie was not available at the moment to help me:) Anyway, you too can have this painting in your home by coming to Rickie's Canvas and Conversation class on Thursday June 11th. Join us this summer at Memi's as we add new artists to our palette at Memi's. Rickie Higgins and Bonnie Hurst will offer "Canvas and Conversation" throughout the summer months. Do not be afraid of the paint brush, for the beauty of these classes is that you enjoy learning to paint stroke by stroke. It's the "grown up" version of paint by numbers!! Ha. Bring your favorite friend, your favorite beverage and have an evening of relaxation as these artists show you how to paint your own masterpiece. You will leave with a painting you will be so proud of you'll be sure to sign up for more... Palettes and Punch is a version of Canvas and Conversation created for kids ages 8-15. Rickie Higgins will be the instructor for this three hour class your child will be sure to love. Not only will they enjoy Rickie's inviting personality, but they will enjoy learning about his technique he has used for many years in teaching his art classes. Each child will leave with a complete painting fit for any living room!

CAMP FIRED! Pottery Camp at Memi's will be hot this summer as we celebrate the Holidays! That's right, we'll paint pottery, create with clay, and have other crafts commemorating the Holidays (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Halloween). This two hour camp will give your child the opportunity to use their creativity to make pieces you (and they) will enjoy for years to come. July 20-24 9-11 a.m. $120 week ($100 each additional sibling)ages 6-12
